Abstract

A surface reconstruction method without point normals as input data is proposed. In the proposed method, point normals are first estimated as the gradient vectors of a roughly-determined implicit function. An initial surface is generated by the Delaunay tetrahedralization with the estimated point normals. In addition, an interactive modification algorithm of the estimated point normals is also proposed. The algorithm are repeated until redundant triangles do not exist on a surface. Experiments demonstrated that the redundant triangles were gradually decreased by repeating the algorithm. In addition, the accuracy of point normals was better by repeating the algorithm.
