Abstract

Posterior ischemic optic neuropathy (PION) is due to acute ischemia of the posterior part of the optic nerve. For a logical understanding of the pathogenesis of PION, it is essential to have a thorough knowledge of (a) the blood supply of the posterior part of the optic nerve, (b) histopathological findings in PION and (c) risk factors.
