Abstract
The following paper deals with several aspects regarding positioning technology and application design in order to provide a seamless system for a region consisting of many areas with various characters. Beginning with an evident example for motivation, basic demands will be shown. Some classifications lead to specific requirements and are followed by a distinction between the primary area types indoor and outdoor. In the end two approaches for common problems in this field will be presented – one regarding to data structuring and handling, another for position determination in several areas.
