Abstract

Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is a spindle-cell tumor derived from endothelial cells, first described by a Hungarian dermatologist, Mortiz Kaposi [22]. KS is a very heterogeneous group of neoplasms that is usually divided with regard to its clinical and epidemiologic characteristics into four types [37]. Its classic or Mediterranean form tends to be benign. In transplant recipients it may be less so. As part of the AIDS pandemic, it may be life-threatening [35].
