High Performance Computing on Vector Systems 2009

Abstract

With the diversification and growing sophistication of high-performance computing applications, there are emerging requirements for the hardware and software infrastructure for peta-scale simulations and data handling. This paper addresses the key technological elements for realizing such a system from the architectural point of view. The author recognizes that the SIMD-based approach is getting pervasive as a core processor technology capable of providing a viable solution to the requirements for higher performance of applications and reduced performance-usability gap. This paper also gives an overview of the NEC approach in HPC with its innovative technological challenges toward future computing.
