Digital Homecare – An Introduction

  • Chapter
Handbook of Digital Homecare

Part of the book series: Series in Biomedical Engineering ((BIOMENG))

Abstract

Digital homecare is a phrase that is easily understood and can be described as a container expression. Assistive technology, telemedicine, mhealth, rehabilitation, are all contained within digital homecare. But it is impossible to find a proper definition of digital homecare. Looking for “digital homecare” in PubMed or Google Scholar delivers less than a dozen results. An important modern reference site like Wikipedia has no entry for it. There is a “lack of empirical evidence to support or refute the use of smart home technologies within health and social care, which is significant for practitioners and the healthcare consumer”. [1]
