Abstract
The concept of a spectrum is introduced and its connection with its parent distribution, the probability distribution, is shown. Both finite and infinite (binomial, Poisson, normal) probability distributions are covered. The measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode) are described as well as those of dispersion (standard deviation, variance, coefficient of variation, and range). A table of the error function values which is indispensable in the case of random errors is included. The convolution of uncertainty distributions is portrayed as needed for combining uncertainties.
