In this lecture, we discuss the problem of steady-state magnetic reconnection. We consider two adjacent flux systems of oppositely directed magnetic field, as in the sheet pinch of Lecture 32. They meet at x = 0, where B = 0. The walls at taken to be far away, i.e., L → ∞.
Most of the basic truths of life sound absurd at first hearing.
