We now begin discussions of the dynamics of the magneto-fluid system when resistivity is included in the model. This is called resistive MHD. There are several important differences from ideal MHD. First, the ideal Ohm’s law is no longer valid, so all the things we have been talking about regarding MHD stability, etc., are also no longer valid. In resistive MHD, the force operator is no longer self-adjoint. We will have to resort to solving differential equations.
We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when
