Abstract
Law and legal discourse on bioethics, i.e. the framing of bioethical debate in the language and logic of law, have become important frameworks for dealing with many bioethical concerns at the international level. For example, the United Nations General Assembly (hereinafter UN General Assembly) has long attempted to regulate human cloning processes by means of an international Convention. Similarly, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (hereinafter UNESCO) and the Council of Europe have both addressed a variety of bioethically relevant issues, such as the processing of human genetic data, the ethics of research on human beings or organ transplantation, within several international legal standards.
