Abstract

A brief introduction is given about the diagnostic role of angiography, which, at present, is significantly reduced compared to the other noninvasive techniques such as color Doppler ultrasound, multidetector CT angiography, and magnetic resonance angiography. Then, there is a focus on technical aspects in diagnostic angiography, discussing materials and imaging parameters; subsequently, the technical aspects of interventional vascular procedures are considered. Anatomy is then reviewed as is apparent on angiographic studies.

The rest of the chapter describes angiographical appearance and interventional management of the pathologies of the kidney amenable of an endovascular approach, starting with occlusive vascular disease due to atherosclerosis, fibromuscular dysplasia, or other causes. Then, less common vascular conditions are discussed, such as renal ischemia, aneurysms, A-V fistulas, trauma, and complications of transplant surgery. Final part of the chapter concentrates on renal neoplasm, both benign and malignant, with special emphasis on the endovascular management by means of the different techniques of embolization.
