Abstract
Transmission of radiological studies requires high quality for reporting and therefore for the transfer of digital imaging and communication in medicine (DICOM) objects. DICOM e-mail, as defined by the DICOM Committee, has this potential. Additional attention has to be given to security aspects, especially encryption. There is a national approach regarding all these aspects in Germany, now providing open-source-based and commercial products.
