Dieser Abschnitt führt Differentialgleichungen der Form −d/dx(c\,du/dx) = f(x) ein. Aus der Differenzenmatrix A in A T CA wird eine erste Ableitung d/dx. Das Problem ist nicht mehr diskret sondern kontinuierlich, und es gibt Randbedingungen bei x = 0 und x = 1. Wir gehen mit unserer Analyse über die Modellprobleme −u″ = 1 und −u″ = δ (x-a) hinaus.
