Abstract
Smart labels and smart tags are often mentioned in the field of cultural applications. Amongst such smart tags and labels, radiofrequency identification (RFID) tags are the most popular. RFID-based systems were originally (in the 1960s) developed by large manufacturers and retailers that wanted a way to track their inventories through supply chains. Uniquely identifying specific objects offers clear benefits in terms of identification, classification, counting, organisation, and many other desirable activities; even tracking and discovering stolen objects.
