Migräne ist ein Störungsbild, das medizinisch und psychologisch sehr gut erforscht ist, besser z. B. als alle anderen chronischen Schmerzen. Dennoch gibt es über diesen Kopfschmerz sehr viele Irrtümer und Halbwahrheiten, die nur scheinbare Behandlungssicherheiten schaffen. In diesem Kapitel wird zusammengetragen, welche Befunde evident und welche nur plausibel sind. Klinische Muster der Migräne, ihre Klassifikation und Epidemiologie werden so weit referiert, dass Leser ohne spezielle Vorerfahrungen sich in dem Störungsbild ausreichend orientieren und z. B. bei entsprechender therapeutischer Ausbildung Migränepatienten psychologisch behandeln können. Die zahlreichen und zum Teil verwirrenden Befunde, gerade aus den letzten Jahren, zur Ätiopathogenese werden dargestellt und integriert.
