Abstract

Interferometry at (sub)mm wavelengths is one of the most important tools to study the physical and chemical properties of the youngest and most embedded stages of star formation. High spatial resolution is needed to resolve small scale structure e.g. details of accretion disks or molecular outflows and the sub(mm) wavelength bands are important because the young and deeply embedded stages of star formation are characterized by cold gas and dust temperatures of the order of 10K. In this article I will discuss some of the most important applications of sub(mm) interferometry and in addition I will give an overview of the sub(mm) array ALMA.
