Stellar Jets: Clues to the Process of Star and Planet Formation

  • Chapter
Jets from Young Stars II

Part of the book series: Lecture Notes in Physics ((LNP,volume 742))

Abstract

An overview of the evidence for an accretion/outflow connection in young stars is presented. Although it is likely that accretion-powered winds play an important role in the angular momentum evolution of forming stars and protoplanetary disks, how this happens is not evident.

Observations of the innermost regions of jets and winds are examined in the light of expectations from current models for MHD wind launching.

The evidence suggests that accretion powered winds are likely launched both radially from the star and via a magneto-rotational disk wind.
