Abstract

Hierarchical production planning (HPP) comprises a considerable number of models which originated from the seminal work of A. Hax, H. Meal, and G. Bitran. In fact, most of the models were developed at the Massachussetts Institute of Technology so that the entire theory is often referred to as the MIT theory of HPP.
