Der Mythos vom globalen Dorf: Zur räumlichen Differenzierung des Globalisierungsniveaus

Facetten der Globalisierung

Die Vorstellung von der Globalisierung als einem Phänomen, das die ganze Welt gleichermaßen betrifft, ist in öffentlichen Debatten, populärwissenschaftlichen Veröffentlichungen wie auch in der wissenschaftlichen Literatur weit verbreitet. Dies erscheint auch nahe liegend, ist doch der Begriff Globalisierung abgeleitet von dem Wort global, also den gesamten Globus betreffend. Die ganze Welt scheint gleichermaßen geschrumpft zu sein, räumliche Entfernung keine Rolle mehr zu spielen und Grenzen bedeutungslos geworden zu sein. Dafür stehen die Metaphern einer shrinking worldund desglobal village, die sich in unzähligen Veröffentlichungen und Lehrbüchern zum Thema Globalisierung finden. Die Welt, ehemals durch eine ausgeprägte räumliche Differenzierung und die bedeutenden Interaktionshemmnisse räumliche Distanz und nationalstaatliche Grenzen gekennzeichnet, scheint auf die Größe eines Dorfes zusammengeschrumpft zu sein, in dem die Dorfbewohner gleichermaßen miteinander interagieren können und die ehemals vorhandenen Interaktionshemmnisse bedeutungslos geworden sind. Globalisierung wird häufig als homogenes oder Homogenität herstellendes Phänomen angesehen, als ein quasi exogener, die ganze Welt gleichermaßen betreffender und zudem außerordentlich wirkungsmächtiger Einflussfaktor.
