Abstract

The word “crisis” (from the Greek “kpinein” meaning to shift, to decide) designates the evolution of a situation to a certain turning point when it is necessary to take a decision. According to the Neomarxist theory, a crisis is an interruption of the normative structures or a “social disintegration” (O’Connor, 1981: 301). Nevertheless, in the general opinion, the word crisis is generally perceived to have a pejorative meaning, being associated with the expression of specific social, economic or political difficulties. A crisis is a period of tensions, disorder and resolute attempt to change, which could affect a society. Regarding the urban environment, it is safe to say that:
