summary

The evolution of the video game can be seen as a development towards more individual freedom for the player and thus as a development towards more interactivity. A good example can be seen in the genre of the role-playing game. Having started out as a simplistic, almost statistical, video game, the role-playing game has developed into one of the types of video game being least dependent on a coherent narrative, thereby granting as much freedom to the player as possible.
