Zusammenfassung

Für einen kulturwissenschaftlichen Zugang zum Phänomen Behinderung ist es unausweichlich, die Prothese gleichzeitig als am Körper materialisierte Technologie wie auch als produktive kulturelle Metapher zu verstehen, anhand derer sich wandelnde Konzeptionen von Verletzlichkeit, Rehabilitation und Autonomie nachvollziehen lassen, die in Disziplinen von Biologie und Medizin bis Ökonomie und Philosophie zum Teil sehr unterschiedlich verhandelt werden (vgl. Wills 1995; Jain 1999; Ott/Serlin/Mihm 2002; Serlin 2006; Harrasser 2016). Durch die Denkfigur des Cyborgs ist der prothesenunterstützte Körper seit spätestens Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts zu einem kulturellen Allgemeingut an der Schnittstelle von Science-Fiction und sozialer Realität avanciert, dessen Deutungsrahmen jedoch selten über das Stereotyp von technology as cure hinausgeht, und der für einen emanzipatorischen Zugriff auf ›Behinderung‹ sowohl Chancen als auch Tücken birgt (vgl. Cheyne 2013; Hollinger 2009; Allan 2013; Allan/al-Ayad 2015).
