Wer verstehen möchte, was Handlungen sind, sollte unter anderem wissen, wie einzelne Handlungen von anderen Handlungen unterschieden werden. Das Problem der Individuation von Handlungen wurde in die handlungstheoretische Debatte von Elizabeth Anscombe eingeführt.
