In der Regel hat ein Handelnder für das, was er tut, Gründe (s. Kap. III.B.14). Die Handlungstheorie der 1960er Jahre war geprägt von der Frage, ob diese Gründe zumindest manchmal auch die Ursachen jener Handlungen sind (s. Kap. III.A.8), zu deren Erklärung sie herangezogen werden (s. Kap. II.4).
