Abstract
Czechoslovakia’s economic growth from the Second World War through the early 1980s took place at the expense of severe degradation of its natural resources and environment. The cost of this environmental degradation has been estimated at 5–7% of national income in the 1980s, reflecting in particular the rising health problems and losses in agricultural and forestry production.
