Abstract

The purpose of the present chapter is to review the most recent advances in real-time transthoracic and transesophageal three-dimensional echocardiography. The method has been shown to be feasible, accurate, and useful in several pathologies, allowing several advantages over the traditional 2D imaging particularly in valve diseases, cardiac masses, quantification of left and right ventricular volumes, and procedural monitoring, including cardiac surgery.
