Abstract
The importance of organizing and managing services for older people will continue to grow in the future as the number of older clients and their need for individualized social and health-care services increases. In the role of an organizer, social and health-care professionals organize and manage services and participate in continuous and client-driven development of services in teams, in organizations and in the overall social and health-care systems. As organizers, they are also obliged to develop and implement long-term policy actions for care and services for older people. In order to meet these requirements, social and health-care professionals must have competences in planning, arranging and developing services as well as competences related to implementation and evaluation of long-term policy actions in local, regional and national level. In this chapter, we describe competences required in the role of an organizer and demonstrate how a social and health-care professional can perform these tasks in practical work. We review these tasks through the work of an exemplar social worker described in the beginning of the chapter. Finally, we present assignments to help you develop your skills as an organizer.
