Abstract

Mediastinal masses are relatively uncommon and affect patients of all ages. They are generally asymptomatic and only approximately one third of mediastinal tumors cause symptoms. Mediastinal masses include a wide variety of tumors that often have overlapping histologic features, representing an interesting diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. They may arise from anterior, middle, or posterior mediastinum, and in this context the location and composition of a mass are critical to narrowing the differential diagnosis.
