Abstract

Taking factors like technological innovations, globalisation, competition, increasing demand and customer expectations into consideration in the medical tourism service sector, necessity of destination evaluation has increased particularly during the last decade in order to facilitate the decision-making process at various levels. The SWOT analysis, which is a strategic planning tool and examines different factors related to the sustainability of new products, technology, management and planning, has ultimately added a new dimension to it as revealed from the findings of the study region concerned. The objective is to develop inputs for successful strategy making in order to avoid long-term problems associated with unsustainable growth. An attempt is made to develop a projection on future prospects of medical tourism in Kolkata considering the spatial aspects of development.
