Abstract
Adults with chronic illness must have health insurance in order to access care. Transitioning adolescents and adults with special healthcare needs (AYASHCN) and their healthcare providers need to be aware of the access to coverage issues that arise when a young adult turns 18 years of age.
This chapter will provide information on the laws that govern health insurance options for adolescents and young adults with special health care needs AYASHCN who are transitioning to adult care.
