Abstract
Tennis is one of the most popular sports worldwide based on the level of participation. It is played at various levels of skill (beginner, intermediate, advanced, elite, and professional) among both sexes and all ages, from early childhood to octogenarians and beyond. Both the singles and doubles format are popular at all levels of play. Tennis is not a clock-based sport, but is rather scoring based. As a result, duration of matches varies considerably. The sport is played on a variety of court surfaces, both indoors and outdoors, and in a broad range of environmental conditions. Although the basic equipment, consisting of racquets, strings, balls, and net, generally conform to standards imposed by the governing bodies within the sport and followed by equipment manufacturers, there remains considerable variation in racquets and strings which may influence injury patterns.
