The Evaluation of Research in Social Sciences and Humanities

Abstract

The chapter investigates the strategies of publication in SSH, trying to identify the variables influencing publishing choices. It describes the VQR 2004–2010 exercise and journal articles collected in DB CINECA from 2004–2013. It analyses 49,712 scientific products of the VQR 2004–2010 in SSH (CUN areas 10–14), and 12,951 articles published by scholars in SSH in 3157 journals in the period 2004–2013.

CV is the ratio of the standard deviation to the mean.

A distribution is said to be asymmetric if its form does not present symmetry with respect to the central position. An elongated tail to the right characterises positive asymmetry.

For the implementation of the MCA, PCA and Clustering, we used the R software, library ca (Greenacre and Pardo 2006; Nenadic and Greenacre 2007), and FactoMineR (Husson et al. 2010).
