Abstract
Gastroenterology is a rapidly evolving specialty especially in the area of endoscopic procedures. Endoscopic techniques are generally learned by observing his or her mentor and performing procedures under direct guidance in order to ensure rigorous training and practice. With such a complex, ever-changing field, determining who can perform which procedures safely and effectively is extremely important. Practical guidelines have been proposed by the endoscopy societies and organizations, and, finally, requirements are decided by the institutions or hospitals granting privileges. The chapter summarizes general considerations in process of approving procedural privileges.
