Abstract

This chapter explores three themes: regionalism, ideology interlinked with governance, and society. These themes at a practical level have had a crucial impact on the Caribbean’s development and interaction with the global community. In the twenty-first century, the Caribbean still appears as a patchwork comprising territories whose peoples speak different languages, subscribe to different political systems and exhibit a variety of social contexts. However, these nuances can be put to one side when the region is considered as a single unit working towards unification. A union of these disparate units will provide the social, economic and political umbrella under which to develop, grow and contribute to the global community.
