Of all the sciences, astronomy is probably the one that seems to most people to be furthest removed from the practical concerns of society. And yet we have described here the many links between this knowledge and our everyday lives. These links extend from time measurement to applications of space science, geopolitics, technological developments, and industrial know-how.
