Abstract
When I tell my students that I didn’t know what an email was until my sophomore year in college they seem genuinely shocked. I like to think it’s partly because I don’t really look very old. More likely, though, it’s because they have grown up all their lives with social media of various kinds that it actually strains their imagination to think what life would be like without all of that. How would you get information on stuff without Google and Wikipedia? How would you stay in touch with friends without cell phones, Skype, Instagram, and Snapchat? Even for me it is now sometimes hard to believe that I hadn’t always possessed those things.
