Abstract
Poisons in this chapter are considered in two groups. Firstly, we look at elements, their compounds and derivatives: arsenic, antimony (and tartar emetic ), copper (sulphate), phosphorus and organic phosphorus compound (E605), lead, mercuric chloride , thallium , potassium (chloride). Secondly, the chapter examines ‘other poisons’: carbon monoxide, chloroform , acids (nitric acid and hydrochloric acid ), Paraquat, antifreeze, N-Nitrosodimethylamine . Examples are provided of the criminal use of these substances.
