Abstract
Acute sialadenitis commonly occurs secondary to viral and bacterial infections, while chronic and recurrent sialadenitis occurs in setting of salivary duct obstruction, mainly due to stone obstruction and inflammatory ductal stenosis. Medical management involves supportive care and antibiotics, while gland-preserving surgical intervention with sialendoscopy may allow the extraction of stones and dilation of strictures in the appropriately selected patients.
