Abstract

The term Abelian means “in the sense of a commutative operation,” i.e. one which yields the same results regardless of the order in which they are performed, e.g. a × b = b × a (Sheriff 1984). Named for the Norwegian mathematician, Niels Henrik Abel (1802–1829) (Weber 1892). Given a function of the form:
