Abstract
In many situations, extracranial angioplasty and stenting has enabled procedures to be performed with diminished risks compared to open surgical procedures. Immediate relief by a minimally invasive procedure is achieved in conditions such as subclavian steal syndrome. While endarterectomy remains the first consideration in carotid stenosis, a considerable number benefit from angioplasty and stenting.
