Abstract

We ran into a big problem in the summer of 2007: a proposed bill in Congress to reform the immigration system stirred up an angry backlash throughout the country. One typical (misspelled) comment online stated, “Illitterate find a new home!” After the bill passed the Senate on May 24, the AM radio airwaves lit up with callers expressing outrage.
