Surface Mining Machines

Abstract

The second chapter presents the main types of machines operating in the continuous surface mining industry. Their main mechanical and structural subassemblies are categorized. Readers are acquainted with the main operational issues and the most frequently occurring problems and failures. The chapter presents a general overview of the problems related to designing mega machines and the main guidelines for design—for example, standards—as well as their advantages and disadvantages.
