Abstract
There is no higher priority in bone surgery than asepsis, for basal implants just as for axial implants. The training and discipline of the dental team concerning respect of appropriate aseptic procedures is of equal importance to any technical refinements, regardless of the type of osteotomy procedure (crestal or lateral approach). Surgical assistants must also be familiar with the specific instruments needed for basal implant placement, bone grafting, possible dental extractions, and impression taking. The means to prevent and treat potential local minor and major complications must be mastered in order to avoid time-consuming and risky procedures during surgery.
