Abstract

The umbilicus’ configuration and position are essential to the aesthetic appearance of the abdomen. Absence or deformity of this cavitation draws unwanted attention and may lead to emotional distress. The author discusses the aesthetic importance of the umbilicus throughout the course of history to modern and various techniques of umbilicoplasty.
