Abstract
This chapter provides critical ontological and epistemological reflections on the methodological challenges related to the introduction and implementation of three northern informed post-positivistic projects in the Global South. The focus is on the construction of ‘social realities’ within a normative framework of promoting processes of democratization through support to an intended journalistic and economic ‘professionalization’ of the media. Furthermore, the examined projects have been developed through various forms of collaboration between a southern partner, northern consultants and a northern donor, and the chapter discusses the pertinent issue of power relations between North and South.
