Abstract
The aim of this chapter is to show how SCNs can be designed to enhance sustainable development. We start by presenting a generic framework and approach for sustainable SCN design and then we examine two particular cases in more details. The first one deals with the design of eco-efficient SCNs. We show how the SCN design models presented in previous chapters can be extended to take the environmental bottom line into account. Finally, we study the design of reverse and closed-loop SCNs, that is, networks incorporating used product collection and revalorization activities and resources.
