Abstract

The Quaternary period represents morphogenic phase of the evolution of the Himalaya (Gansser in Geology of the Himalayas. Interscience Publishers, London, 1964, Eclogae Geol Helv 84:33–59, 1991). It was during this period that the Himalaya rose up to attain its present spectacular height and form (Valdiya in Current Science 64:873–885, 1993b).
