Abstract
This chapter is a brief description, written from free memory, of what academic life was like in a very small Finnish university department 40 years ago, and of how some young chaps, themselves still novices—Hannu Oja being one—wanted to make a difference.
The title “When We Were Very Young” is the title of A.A. Milne’s book (1924).
