Abstract
Assistive robots are designed to help people with special needs (PwSN) such that to improve their mobility and physical social functioning. PwSN include people with partial or full upper/lower limb disabilities incapable of normal movement and mechanical functioning. This chapter starts with a discussion of assistive devices/robots, and outlines the fundamental ethical principles and guidelines of assistive robotics, including the ethical professional codes adopted by well known worldwide rehabilitation societies.
Character is that which reveals moral purpose,
exposing the class of things a man chooses and avoids.
Aristotle
The first step in the evolution of ethics
is a sense of solidarity with other human beings.
