Abstract

This chapter tells some of the insights that writers have given us into their work. Here are the comments of Anton Chekov, Arthur E. Hertzler, Alexander Fleming, and William Carlos Williams—all both physicians and writers. What was Wilder Penfield’s opinion of the influence of medical textbooks? How does Richard Selzer explain why surgeons write? And what do some professional medical writers have to say about medical writing?
